DJI drone: how it flies without a rudder

By @elvar_official, part of Visual Learning. Propellers in pairs that cancel their spin: that is how a drone moves and turns.

The question it answers

How does a DJI Mini move forward or turn in place with no rudder and no tilting rotors?

The steps

  1. 1Unfold it
  2. 2Lift the cover
  3. 3Take it apart
  4. 4Start the motors
  5. 5Move and turn
  6. 6Under 250 g
  7. 7Land and fold it

The big idea: A DJI Mini has no rudder. Two propellers spin clockwise and two counterclockwise, in diagonal pairs, so their torques cancel and the drone stays still in the air. To move forward, the back pair spins faster and the drone tilts; to turn in place, one diagonal pair speeds up.

The question, steps and idea are translated from the original site.

What it is

A DJI Mini you unfold, open and take apart. Then you start the motors and see how changing the speed of each pair of propellers is enough to move forward or turn in place.
