SG90 servo: from PWM to angle

By RobotVisual. How a servo knows which angle to move to, in 3D and from the inside.

Figure 1. An SG90 servo in 3D. In this model, 1 ms is 0° and 2 ms is 180°, and the motor runs slower than the real one so you can see it. Many SG90s use a wider range (about 0.5 to 2.4 ms); check your servo’s datasheet.

A servo is a motor with a sensor that tells it where it is: the potentiometer.

What it is

Our first own lab, in 3D. You move the PWM pulse width and watch the circuit compare, the motor turn and the potentiometer report the position. And you can break it: disconnect the potentiometer and see what happens.

  • Step by step and automatic mode
  • Translucent servo: motor, gears, potentiometer and board
  • A mode to break it

Use it on the roadmap
